Good news from the folks at Raspberry Pi, as the first model of the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s low-cost Linux computer is expected to be available for purchase before the end of the month.
According to the official reports from the Raspberry Pi organization, manufacturing of the tiny little media streaming system on the first batch of board is set to be finished by February 20. However, the manufacturing issue was with the quartz crystal package that the company had chosen.
Furthermore the Company even notes that the quartz crystal that the Raspberry Pi board was designed to use was readily available in UK, however over in China where the device is manufactured it was hard to find. The manufacturer has at last kept the boards together after getting a supply of the crystals.
After the boards are finished, they will be shipped over to the UK where they will be available for purchase shortly after that.
The $35 computer that is a bare board size of a deck of playing cards is equipped with a 700MHz ARM11 CPU and 256MB of RAM. On the other hand, a second model with lower features will finally be released at a price tag of $25.
The statement issued today by the Raspberry Pi Foundation notes that the $35 model will almost certainly be available for purchase by the end of the month, unless there are further production delays.
Moreover the Raspberry Pi Foundation has as well unveiled the availability of technical documentation from Broadcom with details regarding the BCM2835 SoC that is used inside the Raspberry Pi board.
