The Tech giants, Apple and Google have grabbed a record breaking number of mobile devices this Christmas. Devices running Android and iOS grabbed a vast spike in activations Christmas Day, increasing 353 percent from average totals earlier in December.
According to the reports from analytics firm Flurry, who tracked the mobile device activations state that in the first 20 days of December mobile device activations were around 1.5 million each day. Quite fascinatingly, on December 25 it has been identified that 6.8 million fresh iOS and Android activations, indicating 353 percent growth.
The earlier single-day record tracked by Flurry came on Christmas Day in 2010, when there were 2.8 million device activations. That indicates Christmas 2011 holds the new record for the main activation day, which saw growth of more than 140 percent.
For the first 20 days of December, the application downloads averaged 108 million, and on Christmas Day, the application downloads on both Android and iOS has been increased by 125 percent, reaching 242 million.
Flurry’s statistics report reveals that by the end of 2011 Apple’s App Store on pace to exceed 10 billion application downloads, which would double the increasing number of downloads that arrived in 2008, 2009 and 2010 joint.
For Google’s Android Market, till 2011 May it had 3 billion cumulative application downloads, however that number is likely to reach 10 billion by the end of 2011.
Flurry noted that earlier this month, iOS applications rake in 300 % more revenue than their Android counterparts, which indicates that for every dollar generated by an iOS application, a corresponding Android application fetches 24 cents in revenue.
