netgear-utm5-threadThe UTM5 is a strongly differentiated gateway security appliance that extends enterprise-class Unified Threat Management (UTM) technology to any small business, home networks for telecommuters, and small branch offices around five users in size.

Distributed via NETGEAR’s worldwide channel partner program, the ProSecure UTM5 appliances come with simple subscription options without any per-user licensing.

The UTM5 enables small companies to protect themselves using a wide array of defenses including firewall, SSL and IPSec VPN, URL filtering, network antivirus, and antispam, but in a very small, easy-to-use form factor and with a corresponding price point. IT departments can also use the UTM5 to protect the home networks of telecommuters, as these remote employees often share connections with other endpoints that may not be as secure as a corporate laptop.

Network security is an important thing for small businesses and large businesses. Telecommuters that work from home and access corporate networks also need to be very security conscious. Most business level security and threat management appliances are very expensive putting them out of the reach of many people and companies. Netgear has unveiled a new device for network security called the ProSecure UTM 5 that is affordable.

The device is a security appliance that offers enterprise-class unified threat management system and offers the technology at a price that the small business and home user can afford selling for under $300. The appliance offers firewall, SSL and IPSec VPN, URL filtering, network antivirus, and antispam protection in one device.

The VPN server will support both Mac and Windows computers. The ProSecure UTM 5 is available now through ProSecure resellers for $275. Some of the functions of the device require subscriptions including the web security and email protection. Those subscriptions for a year along with support and maintenance agreements bring the price to $399.
