UTM5 Threat Management System Costs Below $300

netgear-utm5-threadThe UTM5 is a strongly differentiated gateway security appliance that extends enterprise-class Unified Threat Management (UTM) technology to any small business, home networks for telecommuters, and small branch offices around five users in size.

Distributed via NETGEAR’s worldwide channel partner program, the ProSecure UTM5 appliances come with simple subscription options without any per-user licensing.

The UTM5 enables small companies to protect themselves using a wide array of defenses including firewall, SSL and IPSec VPN, URL filtering, network antivirus, and antispam, but in a very small, easy-to-use form factor and with a corresponding price point. IT departments can also use the UTM5 to protect the home networks of telecommuters, as these remote employees often share connections with other endpoints that may not be as secure as a corporate laptop.

Network security is an important thing for small businesses and large businesses. Telecommuters that work from home and access corporate networks also need to be very security conscious. Most business level security and threat management appliances are very expensive putting them out of the reach of many people and companies. Netgear has unveiled a new device for network security called the ProSecure UTM 5 that is affordable.

VIA’s Latest Mini Server

VIA-MSERV-S2100-Mini-ServerOne of the reasons we have a soft-spot for VIA is that they eat their own dogfood: not only do they produce processors, mainboards and other chipsets, they also put out a range of products (often to OEMs rather than end-users) that actually use them.  Latest is the VIA M’SERV S2100, a boxy little server intended for home and small business users that’s powered by the VIA Nano CPU.

Dubbed as the M’SERV S2100, the device is equipped with a 1.6GHz VIA Nano 64-bit processor, two DDR2 SO-DIMM sockets, two 3.5-inch SATA-II hard drive bays and a CompactFlash socket. In terms of connectivity ports, it offers dual Gigabit LAN, three USB 2.0 and VGA. Unfortunately, there’s no word on pricing yet.
